When you think of music school, the first two names that come to mind are Julliard and Berklee. However, these are more concentrated for musicians rather than actually training you in music BUSINESS. Art and talent cannot be monetized and commercialized to a great extent without some serious side to it. Here is where you need to be trained to do a better job in marketing the music you believe in.

  1. BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC – Boston, MA

This school probably has one of the best atmospheres and facilities for students interested in making music. There are over ten studios on campus, with enrollees getting thousands of hours worth of time to concentrating on how to produce music in a full-fledged studio.   1. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY – New York, NY

There are two departments within the University, depending on what you are looking for with regard to the music business industry. The first is the Clive Davis wing that is meant more for entrepreneurs who admire the likes of Simon Cowell and well, Clive Davis. Alumni apparently have gone on to become CEOs and biggies in the business.

The other, more traditional wing is the Tisch School of Music that is probably more popular than Clive Davis’. Here, students learn about studio work and actual music production. Those who have graduated from the school have gone on to become executives and producers of some of the greatest music around. 3. UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC – Ann Arbor, MI

This University offers top class studio and equipment for budding music producers to get their hands dirty with. There are many music degrees on offer here and students who have graduated have become all rounders in their fields. 4. DREXEL SCHOOL – Philadelphia, PA

Like New York University, Drexel also offers two degrees – one for the business aspect of music and the other for actual music production. One of the unique features of this school is that students get two summers to intern at actual studios and assist in music production. There are many student-run studios so each one is learning and teaching at the same time. This offers all round experience and gets students prepared for the real world. 5. INDIANA UNIVERSITY JACOBS SCHOOL OF MUSIC – Bloomington, IN

Unlike any of the other music schools in the industry, this one has a maximum of 15 students enrolling every year. This give that advantage of individual attention to students. Though the department is relatively small as compared to others on campus, students graduating from here are assured that they have learnt whatever they could about the industry as a whole.
